Nottens Bush Camp, Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Nottens Bush Camp has created a cool, relaxed safari style through the use of African textures; wood and wicker, clay and cotton, reed and stone. Employed with classic simplicity, these elements demonstrate the ethos of this family owned and run safari lodge; which is to be entertained within the heart and soul of an extraordinary South African family, who just happen to live in the bush.

The Notten family are aware that this land really belongs to the animals and they realise how lucky they are to occupy a piece of the renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

It all began in 1963, when the family bought a portion of the reserve to enjoy as a tranquil retreat for family and friends. It wasn’t until the 1980s that they followed their dream and invited paying guests to share their secret safari hideaway.

From this dream emerged the possibility of contributing to the preservation of this magnificent piece of Africa. From cattle ranches to wild bush, all fences within Sabi Sands were removed and a reserve created that shares fenceless boundaries with the enormous Kruger National Park.

Only ten lucky people at a time get to participate in the Notten family atmosphere, and part of the ambience is a purposeful absence of electricity. Candles and lanterns create a magical mood, which is exactly the impression the Notten family would like you to take away with you.

A safari getaway in the heart of a South African family in one of the most sought-after game reserves in the world, is not just a dream, it’s a reality at Nottens.
